Hi all, looking for advice from the Local Experts on this one. I am a firm believer that most of the "scary" reports on Mexico are without merit. With that being said, I would like local expert advice so I can explain this to the people I am travelling with. I have been to PV twice, the first time I was there I saw 2 mexican gang members I am assuming this as they had shaved heads, jail tattoo's, shorts and muscle shirts, they looked identical punch out the guy on the street trying to give us a coupon for a bar.
After the fight was finished they came up to us and said "that guy was trying to rip you off, those coupons are no good", we were grateful, but very alarmed. Can anyone layout some guidelines of specifics of what to lookout for? Thanks everyone, its a pretty open ended question, hoping to get some solid information so I can tell my travelmates to stop worrying.
You mean you've never seen fistfights on the street in Edmonton VG? Somehow I'm doubting that As previously noted, if it's not something you'd do or get involved in at home, don't do it on vacation. That includes the type of scenario you described which I'm sure happens dozens of times a night on Edmonton streets outside nightclubs, es verdad? You stated yourself it's an open-ended question, and then indicated you wanted narrow results or answers Seriously friend, just go and have a good time and advise your friends to relax and do the same - keep things cool and within reason and you should have a great trip, just like the other 3 million visitors who go to PV every year.
I have a friend who has a shaved head, tattoos all over, wears low pants and he is an undercover cop. We do not have any real gang activities here. So I highly doubt that this was the case. I can tell you that you should never have to put any money upfront for a coupon or anything here unless you are booking a tour. There was a scam recently with some guys "selling" tickets to the Boatnical Gardens, which is free as the admission price is taken off your bar or food bill.
It is a popular look in the young Latino culture- my nephew dresses just like that but he is a A student and is in the University GDL studying tech science. As well, for young women here, it is very common for them to wear a very tight tube top, micro mini skirt and high heels, but they are not prostitutes, very far from it! But it is the culture and a very popular style.
