Antony Okundi The prosperity and resilience of an urban, city or regional economy are hinged on the stimulators of a knowledge economy. Universities and respective satellite campuses emerge as dispensaries of new knowledge, inoculators of historical knowledge to the posterity and service center for contemporary needs for industries and community.
This research study sought to establish the socio-eco-cultural, infrastructural and environmental impacts of hosting satellite university campuses in the Central business district of Nairobi City.
The Nairobi CBD has continued to register a proliferated sprout of satellite campuses which have been haphazardly been located in incompatible environmental setting e. The CBD structuring elements such as buildings, streets and utility infrastructure are also conditionally unprepared for the operational demands of the satellite campuses. This has ignited a myriad of frictions with the recipient neighbourhood in the CBD.
The research methodology employed comprised of mapping the existing satellite campuses, conducting user survey and instrument administration. Sample frame included the respective campus students , Campus administrators 5 out of 8 , recipient neighbourhoods 4 in each sampled satellite campus and the Nairobi City County Responsible physical planner.
It also sourced and blended the primary and secondary data to illuminate the attraction factors to the CBD, symbiotic relationships and make visible the forces of change.
